Machines

I wrote an performed music for a theatre piece called Machinal, directed by Steven Hill. Sophie Treadwell's 1928 script tells the true story of Ruth Snyder, who marries her boss and hates him so much she kills him. She is tried and put to death in the electric chair. In scoring the piece, I hopped between genre and instrumentation, each of the nine episodes being quite musically separate. There was a karaoke funk song, a giant drum kit, piano-and-growl blues, a choral requiem.

Machines is a violin-viola duo arrangement of a few pieces written for Machinal. Four character pieces fall between five variations of a motif (whence most of the character pieces themselves are derived).
